OTA Verifier 2.7

Whenever there's an over-the-air (OTA) update sent out or made available (either leaked or official), there's always a large number of users who end up reporting that their installations have failed with the infamous and dreaded "E:Error in /sdcard/xxx.zip (Status 7) installation aborted" error message.

So, I decided to try to create an application that would assist users in determining the issues that might be preventing their OTA update from being installed.

The OTA Verifier app can be utilized to assess an over-the-air (OTA) update.zip or other flashable .zip file before attempting the installation or afterward to help identify why the installation failed. OTA Verifier will indicate which files and conditions are being tested so users can more easily address these issues.

Q: Do I have to be rooted to use this?

A: No, but rooted devices will have access to more conditions that the app can test and evaluate due to their ability to access protected files that non-rooted devices cannot.

• Q: Will the app actually perform the installation or make any changes to my device?
• A: No, the app solely evaluates the expressions and conditions within the updater-script file within the .zip file attempting to be installed. It does not execute any functions or commands that aim to modify your device.

1. Will this app work on older devices or flashable .zip files using amend update-script files?
2. A: No, this app assesses and interprets the newer edify updater-script files.

How do I use this app?

1. Install and launch the app
2. Click the "Select File" button and navigate to the desired .zip file
3. Long-press (press and hold) the file entry for the desired .zip file
4. Click the "Verify OTA .zip" file pop-up
5. Wait for the app to process the file (large files may take several minutes)
6. View the displayed results (text will also be copied to the clipboard)

Miscellaneous info:

1. Savvy root users may already know how to check for issues after a failed .zip file installation by viewing the /cache/recovery/last_log file. OTA Verifier aims to uncover all issues and not just the initial one causing installation failure.
2. The app can also analyze updater-script files of flashable .zip files created by ROM developers and others using edify updater-script files.
3. It's worth noting that errors reported by this app do not guarantee that the OTA update will fail to install. The app might identify false expressions, such as post-install SHA1 checks in newer OTAs (Android 5+). Version 2.5 introduces a "strict mode" setting to handle such cases, with further enhancements in version 2.6.
4. In version 2.6, the app suppresses errors beyond the 25th one due to excessive output (users can reverse this change in settings).

Permissions: READ_EXTERNAL_STORAGE - utilized for file browsing in the Select App feature allowing users to navigate and select a file for OTA verification.
